Republican legislators storm out of House

A near midnight-hour debate Friday on taxing marijuana turned into a House kerfuffle when majority Democrats interrupted remarks by Republican Rep. Bob Gardner of Colorado Springs in order to save 13 bills on the calendar, causing the GOP to storm out of the chamber in protest.

Lambert Leads Emergency Preparedness Committee

Lambert Leads Emergency Preparedness Committee
April 23, 2013

Today, the Legislative Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery Committee (LEPRRC), chaired by Senator Kent Lambert (R-Colorado Springs), met to discuss disaster preparedness and response for the Colorado Legislature.
"This committee plays a vital role to ensure that essential government operations continue in the event of a statewide emergency,” stated Lambert."If a major public health or safety issue arises, the state must be prepared to coordinate and help direct all operational activities.”

The committee reviewed the current state emergency management plan, heard from the Department of Public Safety and set their interim schedule. It will also be responsible for creating a plan to allow the legislature to continue to operate in the event of a serious disaster, statewide epidemic or environmental disaster.

Senator Lambert, a retired Air Force colonel, was elected by the committee members to chair the committee. His diverse career included tours as a B-52 instructor pilot, a senior scientific analyst in the Pentagon, the air and defense attache in Jordan and Sweden, the Deputy Defense Intelligence Officer for Europe in the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the Deputy Director of the Air Force Space Command Space Analysis Division.

City Hall TODAY!

Please join our new City Council members at City Hall (107 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903) around 1:00 today to sign up to speak about the Community Solar Garden.

Today City Council is considering a resolution to postpone the expansion of the Community Solar Garden until it's more economical and equitable. The expansion subsidy, which is scheduled to begin on May 1, willl cost all ratepayers between $22 and $33 million over the next 20 years. Join us if you don't believe that everybody in town should pay higher rates in order to subsidize solar energy. The earlier you arrive and sign up, the earlier you will be able to speak, so come early.

A call to action from Kanda!

Please join me tomorrow, April 23, at 1pm at City Hall (107 N. Nevada Ave.). We need to show that this city is known to be Conservative for a reason... Conservatives live here, work here, and are ready to put their Conservative principles into action!!! Please be prepared with a brief testimony of why you don't want to support this subsidy.

It's time to put our Conservative principles into action!!!

Our newly-elected City Council passed a resolution to vote on whether to rescind the $33 million solar vendor subsidy that our old Council "felt good" about. It won't feel good when those dollars translate into higher utility bills for the rest of us.

Since passing the resolution today, the new Council has informed me that they are being inundated with emails by those in favor of continuing this unjust policy of stealing from citizens to subsidize these start-up solar companies. It is expected that many of them will be at the City Council meeting tomorrow to bully and intimidate the new Councilors into keeping this subsidy. We already meet ALL state and federal requirements for renewables in our energy portfolio until 2022! Why during a recession would any responsible City Council vote to increase our costs when we have been more than responsive to mandates from above?
