Today, the Legislative Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery Committee (LEPRRC), chaired by Senator Kent Lambert (R-Colorado Springs), met to discuss disaster preparedness and response for the Colorado Legislature.
"This committee plays a vital role to ensure that essential government operations continue in the event of a statewide emergency,” stated Lambert."If a major public health or safety issue arises, the state must be prepared to coordinate and help direct all operational activities.”

The committee reviewed the current state emergency management plan, heard from the Department of Public Safety and set their interim schedule. It will also be responsible for creating a plan to allow the legislature to continue to operate in the event of a serious disaster, statewide epidemic or environmental disaster.

Senator Lambert, a retired Air Force colonel, was elected by the committee members to chair the committee. His diverse career included tours as a B-52 instructor pilot, a senior scientific analyst in the Pentagon, the air and defense attache in Jordan and Sweden, the Deputy Defense Intelligence Officer for Europe in the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the Deputy Director of the Air Force Space Command Space Analysis Division.
